Bluebell Railway 50th Anniversary Appeal
Funding for the Finish
Funding for the Finish is the current focus of our 50th Anniversary Appeal. As of April 2012 we need to raise a further £600,000 to complete the extension to East Grinstead, which we hope to open at Easter 2013.
We have already met the 1 April 2012 deadline for waste clearance from Imberhorne Cutting which had been used as a waste tip. Further waste trains are unlikely, and even if a relatively small amount of waste still needs to be moved, we have plans in place. Both undertaking this work and also raising the funding required by the deadline has been a magnificent effort by staff, volunteers, and other donors. However, we cannot let up, as there is much more to be done. Further details of the work required are available here
Our Funding for the Finish campaign has got off to a fantastic start, with the first £200,000 raised during the "Double Donations Dash". This was a magnificent achievement by our members and members of the public, but if we are to finish the extension we cannot let up on the fund-raising, with £600,000 still needed this year, so please do donate now if you are able to.
Keep steam railways alive
The 50th Anniversary Appeal also aims to raise an additional £500,000 to help preserve our unique collection of rolling stock. Thus the remaining appeal target now stands at just £1.1 Million, compared to £4 Million when the appeal was first launched in 2009. Please Donate now.
This Appeal celebrates the founding of the Bluebell Railway Preservation Society in 1959, the commencement of steam operated services in 1960, and 50 years of volunteer support for the operation of the Railway, which has been recognised by the granting of The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.
